Battle for the Middle is a medium underground map of 72 by 72 tiles for Shadow of Death, rated easy and designed for four players, with only one seat meant for a human. Blue, Tan and Green are computer-only, and there are no teams. Red plays Rampart, while the other three play Castle. Rock covers nearly half the map, with water, grass and some swamp making up the rest. The premise is to gather 300 gems from mines hidden among ponds in the center, since the army needs them to keep its Titans. Victory comes from accumulating those 300 gems, and the game is lost if one specific hero is defeated. Notable features include the Grail, 22 mines, four towns, wandering Azure, Crystal, Rust and Faerie Dragons, and several placed artifacts.
