Champion's Trial is a large surface map of 108 by 108 tiles for eight players, with one human player allowed and seven computer-controlled colors. The two teams compete on Normal difficulty. Red's faction is random, while Blue plays Inferno, Tan plays Tower, Green plays Dungeon, Orange plays Necropolis, Purple plays Conflux, Teal plays Stronghold, and Pink plays Castle. Water covers nearly half the terrain, with rough ground, grass, and snow making up most of the rest. Victory requires building a Grail structure, and the game is lost if the 112-day limit expires. Notable features include the Grail itself, three elemental tomes, an endless bag of gold, wandering Phoenixes, Archangels, a Hydra, and a Medusa Queen, along with 31 monoliths and portals.
