Long Battles is a large Shadow of Death map measuring 108 by 108, with an underground level, set on Normal difficulty. Four players take part, with one human seat and three computer-controlled opponents, and there are no teams. The factions are Castle for the human player, along with Necropolis, Inferno, and Dungeon for the computer sides. Victory requires defeating every opponent and bringing the elixir of life, a specific artifact, back to your main town, while losing a specific hero ends the game. Rock covers much of the land, with rough ground, grass, and subterranean areas making up most of the rest. The map holds the Grail, 41 mines, 16 monoliths and portals, 12 towns, and many placed artifacts, including the Shackles of War.
