Rise of the Necromancers is a hard, large two-player map measuring 108 by 108 tiles, with an underground level included. The necromancer Skeleton sets out on a journey through mountain country, facing bloody battles after a band of Archmages under a leader named Bandura disables his necromantic amplifier. Rock covers about half the land and snow about a quarter, with grass and a little water making up the rest. Red plays Necropolis and Blue plays Tower, but Blue is computer-controlled, so only one human can take part. There are no teams. Victory requires capturing a specific town, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Wandering Ancient Behemoths and Titans roam the map, and artifacts such as the Amulet of the Undertaker and the Shield of the Yawning Dead are placed around it.
