War for the Ring is an extra large underground map of 144 by 144 tiles, rated hard, for eight players with up to four human and six teams. Its description tells of the Ring of Power resurfacing as men, orcs and mages contend for Middle-earth, while elves insist it must be destroyed, a task for the hobbit Frodo. Castle, Rampart, Tower, Inferno, Necropolis, Dungeon, Stronghold and Fortress all appear. Rock covers nearly half the land, with water about a fifth. The map holds 40 towns, 108 mines and 24 creature banks, plus roaming elementals and artifacts like Armageddon's Blade. Victory requires acquiring one specific artifact, and losing all towns and heroes ends a player's game.
