"The Great Battle" is a multiplayer map for Heroes of Might and Magic III: Shadow of Death, set on an extra large 144 by 144 grid with an underground level. Eight players, all of whom may be human, form four teams and play the Fortress, Necropolis, Castle, Tower, Rampart, Stronghold, Dungeon, and Inferno towns on the Impossible difficulty. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. Grass, rough ground, water, and sand cover most of the terrain. The map holds 24 towns, 18 heroes, 115 mines, and the Grail, along with wandering Thunderbirds, Water Elementals, Chaos Hydras, and Behemoths, plus artifacts such as Angel Wings and the Pendant of Courage. Pavel Karpenko of Minsk, Belarus, last updated it in March 2001 as version 1.32, based on the Mirror map.
