Breaking the Balance is a large Shadow of Death map for four players, each controlling one faction: Inferno, Castle, Necropolis, or Tower. There are no teams. The 108 by 108 map includes an underground level and is rated expert. Water covers more than half of the terrain, with smaller areas of snow, subterranean ground, and sand. The author's note describes an old struggle between good and evil, in which the side of good has lost patience and is ready to act. To win, a player must defeat all enemies. A player loses by losing every town and hero. The map holds thirteen towns, 51 mines, 25 creature banks, and 23 monoliths and portals. Notable finds include the Grail, Armageddon's Blade, and the Orb of the Firmament, and fourteen stacks of Black Dragons roam the land.
