Shadow of Death is an extra-large underground map of 144 by 144 tiles for the Shadow of Death expansion, rated Impossible difficulty. Nearly half of its surface is water, with grass, dirt and sand making up the rest of the land. Seven players share the field, three of whom can be human, while the other four are computer-only colors, and the seven are arranged into three teams. Factions include Conflux, Castle, Inferno, Necropolis, Stronghold, Fortress, Dungeon and Tower. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses once all of their towns and heroes are gone. The map holds 43 towns and 13 pre-placed heroes, along with 109 mines, 28 creature banks and 12 monoliths and portals. Several artifacts are set out, including Armageddon's Blade and the Helm of Chaos, and the Grail is present.
