Whimsical Archipelago is an extra large 144 by 144 map with an underground level, designed for eight players who can all be human, with no teams and normal difficulty. Rock covers most of the surface and water about 38 percent, with grass making up only a small share. Each player begins with a different town type, from Necropolis and Tower to Castle and Stronghold. The description portrays the Norshan islands as a land the gods have abandoned, and says that heroes must persuade them to return. Victory requires building a Grail structure, and a player is eliminated after losing all towns and heroes. Among the features scattered across the islands are the Grail, four elemental tomes, four orbs, 56 mines, and 49 monoliths and portals.
