Crusaders Against the Dark Forces is a large underground map measuring 108 by 108 tiles and rated expert. Five colors take part, with one human player at most and four computer-controlled colors, split into two teams. The terrain is mostly rock, with sand, water, and rough ground. Castle, Tower, Inferno, Dungeon, and Necropolis forces appear across the colors. The story follows a company of hospitaller knights, who must capture the town of Darkfos within four months (112 days), and the game ends in defeat if time runs out. The map holds forty towns, 120 mines, twenty creature banks, and eight monoliths and portals. Notable finds include the Grail, many roaming Thunderbird and Black Dragon stacks, and artifacts such as the Dragon Scale Shield and Boots of Speed.
