Shining River is an Extra Large 144 by 144 map by Huntka for Horn of the Abyss, with an underground level and Normal difficulty. Eight players are split into four teams, with up to three human players and five computer-only colors. The story follows a band of traitors and fugitives from a kingdom who cross a river into the cursed land of Vanurak, hoping to rouse the undead king Orfang to avenge their defeated masters, while the sorceress Isabell and her companions pursue them. The factions are Necropolis, Castle, Rampart, Stronghold and Cove. Victory requires eliminating all enemies, and a player loses if a specific town falls. Dirt, grass and sand dominate the terrain, and water covers about 13 percent. The map holds 26 towns, 65 mines, 203 creature banks and 22 monoliths and portals, along with the Grail and artifacts such as the Endless Sack of Gold.

Grupa zdrajców i uciekinierów z Królestwa przekroczyła Lśniącą Rzekę, by dotrzeć do przeklętej krainy Vanurak. Podburzając nieumarłego króla Orfanga zamierzają zemścić się za klęskę swych panów. Ich tropem podąża nieustraszona czarodziejka Isabell oraz jej towarzysze.
