Factions include Rampart for two players, Dungeon for two, and Necropolis, Inferno, and Stronghold for one each. Victory requires defeating all enemies, while a player loses once all of their towns and heroes are gone. The map is mostly rock, dirt, and lava, with some water and subterranean ground. Notable features include the Grail, fourteen towns, and many mines, along with artifacts such as the Sword of Hellfire and Shield of the Dwarven Lords. The author's story concerns a land that falls into darkness and the player's task of restoring a former kingdom.
