LORD OF THE RING — SoD

Lord of the Ring is an extra-large Heroes III map of 144 by 144 tiles, with an underground level, set in a Middle-earth-inspired war over a ring. The author's description says Sauron has allied with neighboring barbarian tribes and is throwing everything into the hunt for the ring, and the player must stop him. The map is rated Impossible and supports eight players, with up to four human players and four computer-only colors, grouped into two teams. Factions include Castle, Stronghold, Rampart and Inferno. Victory comes from acquiring one specific artifact, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Rock covers about 44 percent of the surface, with grass, water and dirt making up most of the rest. The map holds 24 towns, 91 mines, 14 creature banks and 20 monoliths and portals, along with the Grail and a large set of placed artifacts.
