Eight colors are present, with Red, Blue and Tan open to human players, up to three of them, and the other five left to the computer. Players are grouped into five teams, and every player fields the Castle faction. Victory requires defeating all enemies, while a player loses once all of their towns and heroes are gone. The land is mostly grass, with dirt and water making up the rest. The map holds 26 towns and a large number of random monster stacks, along with wandering Griffins, Black Dragons, Zealots and a Pikeman. Notable placed artifacts include Boots of Speed, an Endless Bag of Gold and Equestrian's Gloves, and the description frames the campaign as a push to free allies from a cruel empire.
