War for Freedom! is a small Horn of the Abyss map on a 36 by 36 grid, and it includes an underground level. Eight players each start with a faction, from Inferno and Tower to Necropolis and Conflux, though the Green player begins with both Fortress and Cove. All eight seats can be human, and no teams are set up. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a side loses by losing all of its towns and heroes. Subterranean ground covers about a third of the map, with grass, rock and snow making up much of the rest and water about six percent. Ten towns, 42 mines and two monoliths or portals are spread across it, along with three quest guards and a creature bank. Artifacts such as the Boots of Speed and the Cape of Velocity are placed on the map.
