Caribbean Madness is an extra large, 144 by 144 map on the surface, with no underground level. Water covers roughly three quarters of it, with swamp and rough ground making up most of the rest, so travel is largely by sea and across scattered islands. Six players can take part, though only four can be human, since the Green and Pink colors are reserved for the computer. Each color plays a different faction: Inferno, Necropolis, Fortress, Stronghold, Dungeon, and Rampart. There are no teams. Victory requires defeating every enemy, and a player is eliminated once they lose all towns and heroes. The difficulty is set to Normal. Sea-going wanderers such as Water Elementals are common, and the map is dotted with mines, creature banks, and a number of placed artifacts, including the Speculum and several armor and weapon pieces.
