The story centers on a land gripped by misfortune, where rival princes have turned on each other and talks have collapsed, and the source of the evil, Mephistopheles, must be destroyed to restore order. Victory comes from capturing one specific town, while losing every town and hero ends a player's game. Rock and water cover much of the terrain, and the map holds 25 towns, 123 mines, 40 random artifacts, and the Grail.
