Behistoun is a medium 72 by 72 map for eight players, each human-capable, with no teams and an underground level included. Each player controls a different town type, covering Tower, Castle, Rampart, Stronghold, Fortress, Dungeon, Inferno and Necropolis, and the match is won by eliminating every rival. A player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Water covers about a quarter of the land, while subterranean ground, grass and lava make up most of the rest. The map is scattered with wandering monsters such as Wraiths, Grand Elves and Gold Dragons, along with a set of placed artifacts including the Dragon Scale Shield and the Helm of the Alabaster Unicorn. Eight towns, mines, seer huts and creature banks round out the economy.
