A Stab in the Back is a large 108 by 108 map with an underground level, built for seven computer-controlled players, with only one human player allowed. No teams are set, so each side plays alone. The factions in play are Stronghold, Castle, Fortress, Rampart, Inferno, Tower and Dungeon, one per player. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses once all their towns and heroes are gone. The map is set at Normal difficulty and is designed for the Restoration of Erathia version. Terrain is mostly rock, with grass, snow and water covering smaller shares. Notable features include eleven towns, five starting heroes, sixty mines, seventeen creature banks, eight monoliths or portals, and a number of placed artifacts such as the Arms of Legion and the Golden Bow.
